A DIFFERENT APPROACH

Our Literacy Development Initiative is dedicated to improving the lives of underprivileged children by enhancing their literacy skills, confidence, and aspirations. We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, regardless of background or ability.
 

Our 2022 annual literature review found that 

  • Only 35% of 10-year-olds in England reported liking reading "very much". This lags behind other countries such as New Zealand, Australia and Ireland.

  • Children's cognitive development is more significantly influenced by reading for pleasure than their parents' educational level and it is also a stronger determinant of life achievement than socio-economic background.

We offer a more engaging approach to teaching literacy. Our focus is on developing a love for reading rather than just teaching techniques, allowing students to engage with materials of their own choice within a wide range of age-appropriate and diverse, inclusive, and engaging reads, in order to develop the necessary skills as part of their learning experience. 

WHAT WE OFFER

Reading Sessions

Our 9-month programme offers monthly workshops for children who need extra support with reading. These sessions take place in their school and are delivered by trained staff and volunteers.​

Book Bundles

We curate and deliver a wide range of age-appropriate books that are diverse, inclusive, and most importantly, fun! Ensuring that each child has access to high-quality reading material that will capture their imagination and inspire a love for reading.

Reading Corners

We value comfortable learning environments that promote growth and development. We offer a dedicated space complete with furniture and materials to support educators in providing an optimal learning experience for their students.
