OUR WORK
Did you know that in the UK, 400,000 young students don't have a single book to call their own, while 2.97 million children don't see themselves represented in the books they read?

This lack of access and representation can have a profound impact on a child's development. Shockingly, only 5.1% of all children's books published in the UK in 2022 featured a main character who was Black, Asian, or Minority Ethnic (BAME), despite BAME children making up 33.5% of primary school pupils in England. And to top it off, only 11% of people working in the UK publishing industry are from BAME backgrounds.

We need to work towards a more diverse industry that provides equal opportunities for all children to access literature and benefit from the power of reading. Join us in creating a fair and inclusive society through improved diversity in the publishing industry.
The Literacy Gap, explained
The literacy gap is a disparity in reading and writing proficiency between individuals or groups caused by unequal access to educational resources and opportunities. This gap can have a significant impact on academic, professional, and personal success.
